DBS Marina Regatta Dazzles With First Ever Light Drone Performance In Asia

DBS Marina Regatta will dazzle Singapore with yet another first-of-its-kind experience on 4 June evening. As the grand finale to the DBS Marina Regatta 2017, DBS will partner Intel to bring to audiences at the Marina Bay a tightly choreographed mass drone display that celebrates the fusion of technology and artistry. As the first Intel® Shooting Star™ drone fleet public performance in Asia, 50 drones will light up the skies in front of the Marina Bay Promontory in a three-minute performance at 8.15pm on 4 June 2017.

Steered in dynamic formations, these 50 drones will present different shapes and colours to showcase a bespoke animation designed specifically for DBS Marina Regatta 2017. Dancing in mid-air to a specially commissioned musical piece by Singaporean composer and music producer, Eric Wong, the show promises to awe with stunning precision and finesse. These drones also recently made headlines around the world and went viral on social media after they were deployed in Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl Halftime performance in the US earlier this year.

Compared to traditional fireworks, these drones are purpose built for light shows and are inherently environmentally friendly. Made of flexible plastic and foam, the drones weigh about 11 ounces and the propellers are covered by protective cages. Each drone is also equipped with built-in LED lights that can create over 4 billion colour combinations. Just one pilot is required to control the entire fleet of drones.

This year’s regatta will also bring you the following first-of-its-kind experiences:

1. SEA’s Largest Ever Pop-up Urban Beach

Hailed as SEA’s largest Pop-up Urban Beach, it is twice the size of last year’s urban beach at over 21,000 sq ft – or the size of 1.5 Olympic pools and can fit up to 2,000 people!

Bali beach club Potato Head will be feeding beachgoers with their legendary Coconut Bar here for the first time, complete with their signature uber fresh coconut cocktails and beers. You must get some of Three Buns’ gourmet burgers to complement your drinks!

2. SG’s largest inflatable water obstacle course – Battle Bay

Challengers will have to navigate their way through rope swings, monkey bars, balance blocks and walls. The 9 obstacles course will test their agility, speed and strength. Up for grabs is SGD 8,000 in prize money for the fastest individuals and teams. The best team and individual will also win a trip to Beijing.

3. SG’s biggest pop-up interactive art experience, Bay Dome

At 7.5 metres tall, take in Singapore’s largest pop-up interactive art experience where you can customise your own artwork and watch it come to life within the dome.

4. Bay Eats– Offerings from Singapore’s top young chefs

The Local People returns to DBS Marina Regatta 2017 as curators of the food village. Weave through award-winning food stalls to sample food from top new eateries in town such as the “Neo-Sin” restaurant Labyrinth, French eatery Garçons, The BellJar, Leng Leng ice cream and more.

5. Play Dome – Play in the day, party at night

Standing at an epic nine metres tall, the Play Dome is the spot to be from day to night with lululemon athletica and Ultra Music Festival. Work on your stamina with free lululemon-curated classes by Yoga+, WeBarre and Eat Train Love!

At night, party hard at the DBSMR X Ultra Countdown Party which takes place exclusively at the regatta from 7pm to 10pm on Friday and Saturday evening (2 & 3 June). Featuring three Ultra Music Festival deejays each night such as Dubvision, Crossnaders, Raiden, Jade Rasif, Moe and Myrne.

In 2013, DBS committed a total of SGD 22 million to enlivening the Marina Bay area over six years. Since then, as part of the bank’s continuing efforts to bring the Bay to the people, and the people to the Bay, DBS-run and sponsored initiatives such as the DBS Marina Regatta, DBS Marina Bay Sailing Programme, POSB PAssion Run for Kids, and its other complimentary cycling and yoga activities have attracted more than 500,000 to the Bay – transforming Marina Bay into a bustling hub of activity.
