Following the successful launch of their flagship outlet at Palais Renaissance, Merci Marcel Orchard Road presents their largest retail rendezvous space that celebrates all that is quirky and creative. Since Merci Marcel’s debut in 2017, the brand has been committed to working with independent and boutique brands, meticulously sourcing its own ornaments, furniture, and kitchenware for its Tiong Bahru and Club Street outlets and the newest flagship outlet at Orchard Road.
Culminating the brand’s keen eye for aesthetics and functionality, the Concept Store brings to Singapore a wide array of designer pieces, lifestyle and homeware accessories, toys, and interior furnishings from the latest trends in Paris to the most innovative pieces from all over the world.
This exciting shopping destination carries over 700 products from 80 French and international brands. Aligned with Merci Marcel’s commitment to championing sustainable and charitable artisanal brands, the selection of brands at the concept store were also curated based on their emphasis on environmentally-friendly materials and charity work.
For the perfect festive find, unique celebratory gift, or even a well-deserved pick me up, the Concept Store is the ultimate destination for guests to get their hands on exclusive yet trendy individual pieces and small selections dedicated for them or their special other.
Going against the conventional retail interiors, the Concept Store embraces a welcoming ambience with its timeless herringbone wooden floors once reserved for mansions and Haussman apartments. This chic pattern is typical from traditional Parisian flats. An ensemble of vintage furnitures such as the centrepiece farm table imported from France and Swedish-designed String shelves were fashionably placed to showcase its quirky selections whilst evoking a sense of warmth resemblance of a visit to someone’s living room.
Placed enticingly by the window are fantastical furnishings like the quirky Seletti World monkey and banana lamps as well as elegant lamp designs from Market Set providing a glimpse to the store’s extensive product lineup.
The Concept Store draws inspiration from urban cultures and embodies its philosophy of sustainability through the diverse brands it showcases.
One such brand is the Paris-based CSAO (Compagnie du Sénégal et de l’Afrique de l’Ouest) which supports artists and craftspeople through apprenticeships from Senegal and West Africa and incorporates traditional prints and embroidery into its handmade cushions. Putting a smile on the faces of shoppers and differently-abled children, the Turkish brand HAPPY NES produces colourful handmade fashion and electronic accessories – with every purchase, a donation is made to the children of Tohum Autism Foundation. The Basket Room works with small craft collectives in East Africa and produces woven baskets with a story through stunning colours and unique patterns sure to catch passing eyes.
Sustainability-orientated brand ALL THE MUST makes use of eco-friendly recycled products and Heishi pearls from Ghana for its surfer necklaces. A curio from Sweden, levitating energy-efficient LED light bulbs from FLYTE hover by magnetic levitation and power through the air over their bases made of sustainably sourced wood.
For the parents seeking new playthings for children, French label SuperPetit’s reusable soft 100% silicone playmats are a perfect gift to a budding artist while French brand THE NICE FLEET produces pool armbands and balloons for the kids that are also optimised for recycling.
Those with an eye for the aesthetic and eclectic will find themselves drawn to Casa Cubista’s handcrafted terracotta pieces that take cue from Portugal’s unusual cubist style buildings and the handmade wall décor mask art by Umasqu inspired by quotations from different design languages such as mid-century modern, steampunk, and cubism. Amidst the mix, OCTAEVO’s Mediterranean-inspired and quirky handcrafted flower vases in the shape of nudes will surprise guests.
A true destination for design lovers in the heart of Orchard, Merci Marcel’s concept store is now open for business. Find out more about Merci Marcel, Like Merci Marcel on Facebook and follow Merci Marcel on Instagram.
