Singaporeans looking forward to usher in the Year of the Ox next year are in for a delightful surprise with Asia’s first drive-through exhibition, ‘Moo Moo PARK’! You will learn about the ox’s cultural significance, through the innovative use of visual arts and augmented reality technology. Moo Moo PARK breaks new ground by using interactive and immersive technologies as well as electric vehicles to offer a novel way to enjoy art and culture with family and friends, in a safe and sustainable environment.
From 22 January to 28 March 2021, the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, in partnership with The MeshMinds Foundation, will transform the Centre’s car park into an immersive art experience that spotlights an important celebration of our Chinese culture, as well as the importance of sustainability.
Mr Low Sze Wee, Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre said, “The Centre is always interested in innovative ways to engage with our visitors. Taking inspiration from other types of drive-through exhibitions, we wanted to blend art and technology to offer an immersive experience of our Chinese culture. We invite everyone to usher in the Year of the Ox with us, and learn more about our values and traditions at the same time.”
Ms Kay Poh Gek Vasey, founder of The MeshMinds Foundation said, “We believe that the unique blend of art, technology and Chinese cultural heritage offers a great way to start a conversation about the sustainable development of people and our planet. From digital drawings that come to life to immerse people in their stories and important messages, to breathtaking installations, our creative technologists have taken the artists on a transformative journey to celebrate creativity, resilience and imagination in the new year.”
Upon stepping into Moo Moo PARK, you will learn how eight local artists – Almostasthma, André Wee, ANTZ, Danielle Tay, Howie Kim, Mithra, Puffingmuffin and Toby Tan – have worked with local creative technology studio, MeshMinds, to interpret elements of our Chinese culture into selfies and augmented reality murals, using Instagram powered by Spark AR from Facebook. Through a digital showcase on the Centre’s website, people will be able to enjoy the augmented reality artworks from the comfort of their own home with a smartphone.
As an exhibition that can be enjoyed on foot or electric car, Moo Moo PARK also casts a spotlight on sustainability. A fleet of electric cars will be waiting in the Centre’ car park to offer an audio-guided journey around the visually captivating art and installations made by the eight artists in collaboration with local design studio, Space Objekt.
Through their creative works, each artist will also address one or more of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, with a special focus on topics such as air pollution, the future of sustainable mobility, as well as the endangered habitat of the gaur, a type of wild ox native to Southeast Asia. You will enjoy a meaningful, inspirational and educational bonding experience with your families and friends with plenty of unique memories and instagrammable moments to capture and share.
Moo Moo PARK opens from 22 January 2021 in conjunction with Singapore Art Week. From 30 November 2020, the public can book tickets on SISTIC for Moo Moo PARK – tickets are available at $10 for a drive-through experience and $5 for a walk-through experience.
