To celebrate the rich heritage of Singapore’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site – Singapore Botanic Gardens, NParks has planned two fun-filled weekends at the upcoming Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2017. Enjoy tours of the Gardens, performances at the iconic Bandstand and Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage and tingle your taste buds with Heritage Food Trail promotional menus by the Gardens’ cafes and restaurants. Enough said, let’s check out the delicious offerings at Singapore Botanical Gardens Heritage Festival Food Trail 2017!
1. Food For Thought Heritage Set
Date: From 30 June to end July | Price: $18 (include GST)
Food For Thought specially put together a modern twist to classic local favourites – Nasi Lemak Risotto and Iced Rose Bandung Ice Cream Ripple. The Nasi Lemak Risotto consist of a crispy chilli chicken cutlet and a rich, creamy coconut risotto, served with a poached egg, ikan bilis, peanuts, and sambal. Food For Thought hopes that the dish will serve as a glimpse of Singapore’s melting pot of culture, and a reminder that even completely different ingredients can work together and bring joy to others.
Travel back in time at Food For Thoughts Old School Mini Carnival between 11am to 2pm on 8 & 9 July! Kids get to enjoy a slice of Singapore as it used to be as they try out traditional games like Goli and Chapteh, and savour local snacks such as kachang putih, ice balls and gula melaka cotton candy!
2. Halia Heritage Set
Date: 30 June – 9 July | Price: $30++ per set
The set is a combination of Halia’s Singapore-style Chilli Crab Spaghettini and Chilled Lemongrass & Ginger Infusion Drink. A signature dish of the restaurant, Halia’s Singapore-style Chilli Crab Spaghettini has won accolades from visitors in Singapore and around the world. It comprises al dente pasta that is deliciously swathed in a spicy, sweet and tangy sauce reminiscent of the iconic Singapore chilli crab dish.
Take part in a free 45 minutes cooking demonstration of Halia’s Chilli Crab Sauce at 4.30pm on 1,2,8 & 9 July 2017. The Chilli Crab Sauce is available for purchase from Provisions Store, as well as during the cooking demonstration. To register your interest, please click here
Provisions Store will also be offering a 10% discount on various items during the Heritage Festival, such as Halia’s Chilli Crab Sauce, Ginger Flower Sauce, Ginger Pineapple Jam, Curry Oil Dip with Kicap Manis, Chilli Crab Bun, and Spiced Island Coffee / Tea Kit.
3. Casa Verde Heritage Set
Date: 30 June – 9 July | Price: $19.50 nett
Casa Verde is bringing in some of Singaporeans’ favourites, on top of its existing local menu. You will be able to enjoy a Heritage Festival exclusive set comprising Prawn Noodles Soup or Seafood Char Kway Teow, Iced Jelly with Aloe Vera, and a choice of soft drink or regular coffee.
Chock-full of flavour and melt-in-your-mouth tender, beef rendang is typically slow-cooked in a rich lemongrass and coconut sauce. For a modern rendition of this mouth-watering dish, enjoy Casa Verde’s Asian-Italian fusion Beef Rendang Pizza ($25) during the festival!
Casa Verde will also be launching a special Mui Kee Congee porridge menu! Mui Kee is a three-generation Cantonese porridge concept that adopts traditional cooking methods and flavours. Take a trip down memory lane with a piping hot bowl of the congee, flavoured by the rich heritage that surrounds the brand.
4. Corner House Heritage Discovery Menu
Date: 30 June – 9 July | Price: $128
Corner House offers a special menu with hints of Singapore culinary influences in celebration of Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival.
Corner House will be opening its doors for you to take a closer look at the former residence of E.J.H. Corner, the Assistant Director of Singapore Botanic Gardens (1929 to 1945) at 4pm & 4.30pm on1, 2, 8, 9 July 2017. The tour is free but on-site registration is required.
Walls of the restaurant celebrate the life of this great man by showcasing old black and white pictures of the house, Corner, and its other former residents – depicting Corner’s life as a botanist, father and family man. They are also lined with several reproductions of original artworks done by Corner himself, such as the mycology collections which were samples he collected at the Singapore Botanic Gardens and Bukit Timah.
5. Food Canopy Heritage Festival Special Di Wei Set Menu
Date: 30 June – 9 July | Price: $8.80 per set for 1 pax
Take a walk down memory lane with Di Wei’s traditional Teochew dishes. The Heritage Festival Special Set Menu comprises a few of its signature dishes – Cai Po Kway Teow, Prawn Balls,
and Teochew Yam Paste with Gingko Nuts!
6. The Garage Chargrilled Ibérico Char Siew, Tropical Fruit & Turmeric Twist
Date: 30 June – 9 July | Price: $34++ (Char Siew), $12++ (Tropical Fruits) & $12++ (Turmeric Twist)
Botanico has created its own interpretation of Char Siew, a popular local dish of pork marinated and barbequed to sweet-savoury, succulent perfection using premium Ibérico pork.
Comprising Laksa Leaf Ice Cream, Turmeric Ganache, Palm Fruit and Jackfruit, Tropical Fruits Dessert pays tribute to The Garage’s historic location within the compound of the former Economic Garden, named for the economic crops cultivated in it. Turmeric is a beautiful spice commonly used in Asian cooking. Best paired with Tropical Fruits, the Turmeric Twist is a refreshing cocktail in Singapore’s sweltering heat.
The Garage has specially organised Kids’ Pizza-making Workshops between 4pm – 5.30pm on 1 & 2 July 2017 for children aged 4 to 12. Adult supervision is recommended.
