In Bali, the landscapes offer an incredible delight for the senses. The lush green foliage and sweeping rice fields can keep visitors intrigued with its splendour for hours. The location is magical with its impressive volcanoes and beautiful beaches. There are so many places for which to photograph and capture the sun’s beautiful display of colours and beauty as it sets. For some, Hong Kong is a modern high-density city with a horribly fast pace in life which makes it really similar to Singapore. But ladies beg to differ, they adore the shopping and eating tai tai kind of lifestyle in this metropolitan city. Well, one man’s meat is another man’s poison.

Kuala Lumpur or KL as it is commonly known is just a conveniently hop from Singapore either via air or roads. As the capital, Kuala Lumpur is the most modern and developed city in the country, with contemporary high-rises and world-class hotels, glitzy shopping malls as well as local and international cuisine. While the city’s past is still present in the age-old colonial buildings of the Dataran Merdeka and the old fashion lamps of the Petaling Street Night Market, that past is everywhere met with insistent reminders of KL’s present and future. While you are there, remember to check where the locals go for their Bah Kut Teh & Yong Tau Foo.

For me personally, Penang is a charming fusion of both the East and West. The city creatively embraces modernity while retaining its traditions and old-world charm. These are well reflected in its harmonious multiracial populace and well-preserved heritage buildings which led to George Town being accorded a listing as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site recently. The street art in George Town is also a must-see in the city. Long regarded as the food capital of Malaysia, Penang also entices visitors with its beautiful coasts and scrumptious cuisines.

Malacca is one of the historical states of Malaysia. The city is full of beautiful heritage buildings, ancient landmarks and colonial structures. It was here that colonial forces first made contact with Malaysia, which eventually shaped the country into its current economic and political system. Hence you can still see imprints of British, Dutch and Portuguese forces left behind in forts, museums, churches and towers. But I personally love the city for its rich Peranakan culture and cuisines. Ditch the big hotels and stay at one of their boutique hotels to soak up the heritage.

Cruises are by far the best way to take the exhausting travelling leg out of a weekend getaway. Yes, you are still heading off to a destination but you get to chill, relax and feast while the ship is moving.
Contrary to popular belief, a cruise is not just about eating, gambling and lazing around (although the gambling is quite a big thing for many Singaporeans). There are lots of activities and facilities going on at every hour for everyone in the family.
