Pride Month may be over, but there’s still plenty to be proud of! In celebration of Unicorns, Love, and Pride, Oogachaga and Trouble Brewing have teamed up to create Unicorn Ale, the first ale in Singapore to support the local LGBTQ+ community. Part of the proceeds of Unicorn Ale will go to Oogachaga, a community-based, non-profit professional organisation that has been working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender & queer (LGBTQ+) individuals, couples and families in Singapore since 1999.
Brewed with hibiscus, pink dragonfruit, and rosehip, the pink-hued medium-sweet drink tastes closer to a cider than a traditional ale. Offering notes of bold apple and soft floral pear on the nose, it finishes light with a hint of blackcurrant. In addition to the magical taste, the bottle’s label features artwork by local artist Teo Yu Sheng, with his own spin on the mythical unicorn. See more of his work at @heckin.unicorn!
“This is such a refreshing initiative for us – bringing together art, ale and advocacy. For the first time in our 20-year history, we are collaborating with a local artist and a local micro-brewery to develop a unique beverage, raising much-needed awareness and support for Singapore’s LGBTQ+ community,” says Leow Yangfa, Executive Director of Oogachaga.
Joseph Barratt, Co-Founder and CEO of Trouble Brewing and Singapore Lager says: “As proud supporters of the local LGBTQ+ community, we’re really excited to be working closely with Oogachaga and be part of a cause that celebrates and embraces diversity. The Unicorn Ale is exactly that – a fun, unique and magical drink for everyone.”
“Heckin’ Unicorn was started to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and to allow people to express their support and identities. It’s amazing that we get to work with Oogachaga, who has been nothing but a strong pillar of support for the local LGBTQ+ community,” says Teo Yu Sheng, Founder of Heckin’ Unicorn.
Those keen to get their hands on Unicorn Ale can purchase the beers by reaching out to jasmine@troublebrewing.com or find the brew at partner locations including Fry Rooftop Bistro & Bar and Well Dressed Salad Bar from now until the end of September.
