Van Leeuwen Singapore, the cult-favourite ice cream brand from Brooklyn, New York is ready for its first scoops of French ice cream in Singapore from 4 August at Orchard Central. Van Leeuwen started out from a humble ice cream truck on the streets of New York City in 2008. With a mission to make good ice cream that makes you feel good, because a life without anything good is bad. Van Leeuwen is known for serving honest-to-goodness ice cream made with double the amount of egg yolks, making it “french ice cream”, and vegan ice cream made the good way – with real natural whole ingredients sourced from the finest small producers in the world. The brand has 50 scoop shops in America. This store marks the brand’s first business venture abroad.
Van Leeuwen’s philosophy for making good ice cream that makes you feel good is using only simple, quality ingredients sourced from the finest suppliers, local farms, and from around the world. Here’s what one can expect from the menu of French ice cream.
The graham crumble featured in Marionberry Cheesecake is made in-house and the marionberries that are used to make the jam are from Stahlbush Farms. Stahlbush is an environmentally friendly farm and food processor committed to sustainable agriculture.
Sicilian Pistachio, a crowd-pleaser made with a very special variety of pistachio that is only grown in the rugged landscape of Bronte, on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. To accentuate its native flavour, the ice cream is made with nothing more than these nuts ground into a fine paste.
Other must-try flavours include Honeycomb, a sweet cream ice cream with gooey honeycomb candy pieces. Honeycomb is a crunchy and chewy caramel candy. Praline Butter Cake is another sweet cream base ice cream loaded with praline pecans and pieces of irresistible brown butter cake, and Black Cherry Chip – 2021’s best-selling special flavour that has become a fan-favourite with cherry ice cream with chocolate chips and luscious black cherries.
French ice cream aside, the brand has made a name for itself with its vegan ice cream. Often touted as the best vegan ice cream you’ll ever try, these creamy scoops are made with cashews, coconut cream, and oat milk.
Flavours include Vegan Brown Sugar Chunk, a sinful concoction of vegan dark brown sugar ice cream, golden brown oat crumble, cookie dough and brownies.
Other indulgent flavours include Vegan Churros and Fudge, a dark brown sugar and cinnamon vegan ice cream with pieces of vegan churro and vegan chocolate fudge, Vegan Cookies & Cream Caramel Swirl Ice Cream, creamy vegan ice cream with cream-filled dark chocolate cookies, elevated with a touch of cold-ground Tahitian vanilla, and Vegan Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream, vegan vanilla ice cream featuring a house made jam made from Oregon-grown strawberries and pieces of shortcake.
